Aperiodic Lasercut Einstein Hat Polykite MonoTiles (Ages 6+)
$20.00
These tiles are the miracle mathematical shape. A shape that can be arranged in a tile formation, interlocking with itself ad infinitum, without the resulting pattern repeating over and over again.
Each set has 20 pairs of mirrored (reflected) tiles, for a total of 40 tiles.
Use for gaming, puzzling and at school for mathematical concepts and theories.
By default, your order will have half of the tiles in one orientation and half mirrored tiles.
However, you can alter the number of mirrored tiles, for example a set of 20 where 15 are of one orientation and 5 are the mirrored orientation.
Tiles are lasercut from 3mm painted MDF in various sizes (point to point). Only one side is painted with acrylic paint, sealed, etched and cut.
You get random assorted colours.
Polykite tiles can be used to make uniquely shaped puzzles, as per the image of a magnetic heart puzzle.

Please note: Lasercut tiles may have a slight charcoal smell caused by the cutting process which actually burns through the wood. This dissipates after a few days when unbagged.
APERIODIC EXPLANATION:
An aperiodic monotile never repeats a formation, no matter how long the pattern.
These represent the miracle shape that disrupts order, invented by mathematicians, a new ‘Einstein’ shape. Discovered in 2022 and now called ‘the hat’, the 13-sided shape can be arranged in a tile formation such that it never forms a repeating grid. It was a breakthrough discovery in mathematics, a single shape that can cover an entire plane to infinity without any repeating pattern. Finally after over fifty years it exists and game now be used for games with pieces that connect endlessly. Don’t misconnect them in “wrong” ways because there will be gaps that can’t be filled.
